Project Story
As the kids got older, the wooden playscape quickly outgrew its purpose. That’s when Dad stepped in with a vision: a multi-sport court where the whole family could play, compete, and hang out.
That vision came to life with a custom-built tri-court — full court basketball, pickleball, and regulation volleyball — likely the first of its kind in Somerville. Outfitted with two Dominator hoops, a Selkirk semi-portable net, and a regulation volleyball setup, there’s no shortage of ways for Mom and Dad to lose to the kids.
To handle the Texas heat and heavy play, we added 3-foot turf perimeters for extra space and a shaded seating area for cool-downs. The site’s natural marshy terrain created unique drainage challenges, but we were up for it — working with our turf partner, we designed and installed a subterranean drainage system that moves water efficiently from the high side of the court, keeping play going no matter the weather.
